Khatu Shyamji is synonymous with Lord Krishna and thus he is worshipped in the same form. In Hinduism, KhatuShyam is a manifestation of Barbarika, son of Ghatotkacha, who was the son of Bhim in Mahabharata. In Rajasthan, India, Barbarika is worshipped as Khatu Shyam in Khatu Shyam Temple, and in Gujarat, India, he is worshipped as Baliyadev and is believed to have been sacrificed before the Mahabharata war to ensure the victory of his grandfathers, the Pandavas. In return for his sacrifice, he was deified by Krishna.
