A life can sometimes unravel – and without warning. Pier Erasmus, young, easy-going and raised with kindness in southern Africa was given a private school education. And when his engagement to a Cape Town socialite was terminated abruptly it was a shock. But an unexpected opportunity arrived - could he escort a small private tour through some of the spectacular African sights in the north? He could. And in a restaurant, he meets Elfi Behrens. Attractive and very perceptive - a young woman just arrived from Germany to work locally and gain African experience. She will join Pier for part of his tour. A new pathway has opened. But when Elfi leaves the tour to return to work Pier’s accustomed good fortune abruptly collapses. He is attacked. And imprisoned in a nightmarish urban hellhole. He gains freedom but is aware that he has unwittingly crossed the path of a ruthless enterprise. One specialising in aviation crime including offshore terrorism and, in Africa, the transportation of slaves. These people are in a search to kill him. With no money, phone or passport, life becomes a challenge for survival. And Pier knows there is a vast continent to be crossed in order to reach safety (and Elfi) again. So he works it out. He must get a new education. Not an education of manners, but one built for the high roads and the low places of remotest Africa. He must learn to endure lack of food or shelter, survive an attack or steal a car. To kill if necessary to save his own life – or maybe even the life of another...Hungry, penniless and resting in a small Kenyan village, Pier reflects and watches farmers talking nearby as the women arrange their produce beside the dusty road. A tall athletic villager leads a goat by a string. This man walks up to Pier and stops to speak. He uses a very refined English which seems to comes from the eastern United States. Pier is staggered but responds. He is about to find out many things. And will soon come to realise that his own life has been changed - forever. Read more
